One of the most common complaints that I get from pre-menopausal and menopausal women is that their body weight has changed significantly. Before they used to lose at least 1-2 lbs but now its like nothing works. But why is that?
There's actually a few reasons behind this phenomenon. The first is that a decline in estrogen causes weight gain. This is because estrogen is very protective of weight gain, especially around the belly and hip region. That's why women's cardiovascular risk goes up significantly after menopause.
The loss of estrogen causes the growth of fat in all the wrong areas.
The second reason is that pre-menopausal and menopausal women tend to sleep less, stress more, and have very little energy. This combination is the worst for fat loss. Regardless of your diet or workout routine, if your feeling like crap your not going to be able to lose weight.
Lastly, as women age their muscle mass reduces. A loss in muscle mass causes the basal metabolic rate to change. That means that the bodies ability to burn fat is lowered.
With these 3 things happening, weight loss becomes a very difficult task. The good news is that we can improve all 3 issues and get you losing weight like you did when you were younger.
