Low energy is a very common concern that patients, particularly women, present with in office.
They will usually wake up unrefreshed and have low energy throughout the day.
There are not a lot of conventional solutions for low energy and so most people are told its a normal part of life.

When treating low energy, its important to determine what the reasons behind it may be.

1) Hypothyroidism
Hypothyroidism is caused by an under active thyroid. Thyroid hormones play a key role in many processes in the body can when underperforming can cause low energy, constipation, dry skin, and intolerance to cold.
2) Lack of quality/quantity sleep
Sleep time is when the body is able to rejuvenate quickly. If sleep quality is impaired then daytime energy will suffer. The most common symptoms of this are waking up feeling unrefreshed or feeling like you need to take day time naps.
3) Anemia
Anemia causes a lack of oxygen to be delivered to the cells due to a lack of red blood cells. Anemic patients will often present with lack of energy, shortness of breath and poor blood circulation.
4) Lack of nutrition
Eating is the bodies way of re-fueling and so undereating, or undereating on important macronutrients like protein and fat, can cause low energy. It's important to deep a deep dive into the math behind your diet to learn more about how it may be affecting your life.
5) Hormonal imbalances
Irregular bleeding patterns, PCOS, endometriosis, and fibroids can all cause fatigue. If there are hormonal symptoms alongside the low energy, its important to investigate the hormonal imbalances as the possible cause.
